This Twitter thread take-down of The Cheesecake Factory is insane

The Cheesecake Factory has a major identity problem and a Twitter user by the handle MaxKriegerVG knows it.

MaxKreigerVG, or “Max Sledroom” as his display name reads, used Twitter as a medium to expose every single flaw in the cheesecake-selling chain restaurant’s appearance, ambience, and menu and it’s surpisingly all fairly spot-on. He began by describing the entire restaurant concept as a “postmodern design hellscape”.

https://twitter.com/MaxKriegerVG/status/931373170791198720 “If you want a fully immersive “postmodern design hellscape” themed dining experience I highly recommend dinner at The Cheesecake Factory from a design perspective that place is . wild and I’ll talk a little bit about why,” he began.

Max Sledroom first defined the overall theme of The Cheesecake Factory, which in a series of tweets he described as “Victorian-Egyptian-Rococo off the rails” and a mix between a Fry’s Electronics, Panera, and laser tag arena. If you’ve ever set foot in a Cheesecake Factory, you know he’s kind of right.

https://twitter.com/MaxKriegerVG/status/931378892203536384 “The interior is a world of aesthetic chaos that feels like a mix between a Fry’s Electronics, an overgrown Panera, and a laser tag arena. It’s /sensational/. Palm trees sit aside 2000’s-chic glass lighting fixtures, French limestone floors, mosaics, fresco-like murals. ” he wrote.

The one-man Cheesecake Factory take-down continues with even more tweets that you can click through to view, where he deconstructs the issues with advertising for the restaurant you are already in, in the menu, as well as how the cheesecakes themselves (which are supposedly the entire reason for the restaurant) are sequestered in some lone and deserted corner.

The Rock Takes On Blake Shelton
In other tweeting food news, The Rock took to Twitter to say what everyone has really been thinking. That even though Blake Shelton won People’s “Sexiest Man Alive”, we know who the real sexiest man will remain in our hearts. I mean come on, he even compares himself to pizza! We smell what The Rock is cooking and we want a slice.

https://twitter.com/TheRock/status/930165944630022149 “Let’s all just take a moment to recognize @people‘s Sexiest Man Alive will always be the 6'5 260lbs of tattooed brown eyed soul. And clearly there’s lots of steamy cheese on this pizza I’m serving. That is all. Let’s get back to work,” he said.

Chrissy Teigen, Tweet Goddess
Food goddess and Twitter personality Chrissy Teigen came clean with this hilarious morning confessional.

https://twitter.com/chrissyteigen/status/929837844645871616 “I could not believe how bad I smelled upon waking up this morning but I have thankfully since been informed I slept on a cup of fishy spring roll dipping sauce,” she said.

José Andrés Hannity Zinger
Humanitarian superhero and our new favorite Twitter comedian José Andrés, had jokes about the Hannity fans destroying their products from brands who pulled their advertising.

https://twitter.com/chefjoseandres/status/930399050825961473 “Volvo eh? I can not wait to see the haters smashing theirs cars and driving it off a cliff. ” he joked making us adore him even more than we already do.

Celebrity Double Take

Trump Drinks Water, Meme Ensues
We thought these tweets about the Trump Water Memes were spot-on. Hopefully they quench your thirst for political pettiness.

The Vegan Conspiracy
Actress Mara Wilson only believes in this conspiracy theory and we would love to see the receipts on that because we think it may be true.

https://twitter.com/marawilson/status/931273203405635585 “I only subscribe fully to one conspiracy theory: that all vegans know each other,” she wrote.

Cornbread Issues
Kalen Allen posted what may be the greatest reaction video to anything of all time. The reaction-videomaker watched Buzzfeed’s Tasty make cornbread 4 ways and was enthusiastically aghast at the recipes. Hopefully Kalen would approve of our cornbread stuffing from 10 great stuffing recipes!

“So I saw this Tasty video on how to make cornbread and I am utterly disgusted!” they said.

My Sweet Goodness! The Cheesecake Factory’s Most Popular Cheesecakes Paired With Dessert Wines

I LOVE cheesecake! It’s definitely a deathbed food for me, though I will confess that I don’t eat it often because it’s so nutritionally naughty. In fact, now that I think about it, I haven’t had a slice in 2012! That’s going to change on July 30 – National Cheesecake Day. In honor of National Cheesecake Day, I thought it would be cool to offer wine pairing recommendations for the Cheesecake Factory’s most popular cheesecakes.

When it comes to dessert and wine pairings, there is only one hard and fast rule – the wine should be as sweet as, or sweeter than the dessert, otherwise the wine will taste sour. That’s why cheesecake can be a challenging pairing – because it comes in so many variations/styles. Not to mention that it’s not top of mind when it comes to something with which to pair wine ( I bet a cold glass of milk comes to mind for the majority of folks) But to my way of thinking, having a great glass of dessert wine is one of the wine world’s and life’s finest and most delectable treats, and is the perfect way to cap off a great meal!

Here’s the deal, I went to the Cheesecake Factory website, and found the following 10 cheesecakes listed (in order) under “Our most popular” cheesecakes (hmmm…not sure how a cheesecake being rolled out next week is #1 on the list..but I’ll go with it)

Note: All images and descriptions of the cheesecakes are courtesy of the Cheesecake Factory

    – “OREO® Cookies Baked in our Creamy Cheesecake with Layers of Fudge Cake and OREO® Cream Mousse. Topped with a Milk Chocolate Icing”. This seriously decadent and delicious cheesecake debuts on July 30th according to the Cheesecake Factory’s website.

Pair with 2009 M. Chapoutier Banyuls Vin Doux Naturel (“VDN”). This is a lightly fortified wine from France made from Grenache with intense aromas of fig, quince, chocolate, licorice and spice nicely offset with tannins and acidity that make a charming match for this extreme cheesecake.

    – “Two moist layers of chocolate cake soaked with Hershey’s chocolate, layered with creamy Hershey chocolate ganache and chocolate cheesecake made with Hershey chocolate. Finished with Hershey milk chocolate icing and Hershey milk chocolate chips“.

Pair this chocolate overload with a Ruby port. Ruby port is the least complex style of red Port, and is fruity and straightforward. That youthful style should work well with the milk chocolate which dominates this cheesecake. Try the Ramos Pinto Fine Ruby Port.

This classic cheesecake would be fantastic with the 2007 Schramsberg Crémant Demi-Sec, which is a sparkling dessert wine, and a fantastic one at that! I’ve enjoyed it with a “plain” cheesecake before, and it was a fabulous pairing! Because the Schramsberg is made it the “demi-sec” style which will be sweeter than the cheesecake. Additionally, the effervescence of the wine will cleanse the palate and have you ready for the next bite of cheesecake!

Red velvet cake tend to be less sweet than its chocolate counterpart. Pair with 2009 Dashe Cellars Late Harvest Zinfandel, which features cherry, raspberry, and hint of chocolate and vanilla flavors that are balanced out by a nice vein of acidity. It’s sweet but not cloying.

    – “Our Creamy Cheesecake with Chunks of White Chocolate and swirls of imported Seedless Raspberries throughout. Baked in a Chocolate Crust and finished with White Chocolate Shavings and Whipped Cream“.

Here’s another opportunity to pair cheesecake with a sparkling wine – this one is from Italy – Banfi Rosa Regale. It’s a beautiful cherry red color, and offers delightful rose petal aromas backed by flavors of strawberries and raspberries. It’s one of the few sparkling wines that has an affinity for chocolate!

    – “Layers of Delicious Fudge Cake and Caramel between our Original Cheesecake with Chunks of Reese’s® Peanut Butter Cups“.

Pair this decadent cheesecake with the Gonzalez Byass “Matusalem” Oloroso, a sherry aged 30 years, which gives it a dark color with intense and multi-dimensional dried fruit and nut flavors which will make a great complement to the chocolatey-peanut butter goodness in this cheesecake!

  • 30th Anniversary Chocolate Cake Cheesecake – “Two layers of our Original Cheesecake and two layers of our creamy chocolate fudge cake filled with chocolate cream and finished with crunchy pearls of chocolate“.

Pair with 2010 Bonny Doon 2010 Mourvèdre “Mon Doux”. This is a Port-like dessert wine made from the old-vine Mourvèdre(MORE-ved-DRUH). Here’s what Bonny Doon says about it…”We harvested the raisinated parts of the clusters, hand-scissoring them on our sorting table. The resultant sweet red has aromas of blackberry, dried black cherry, tea leaves. On the palate, it has sensuous dried plum, fig, candied cherry, and sweet spice balanced by lively acidity”.

    – “Flourless Godiva Chocolate Cake topped with a Layer of Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake loaded with Chunks of Godiva Milk Chocolate and topped with a layer of Godiva Chocolate Mousse. Godiva® is a registered trademark of Godiva Brands, Inc”.

Pair with 2008 Barra Bella Dolce Petite Sirah, which is a Port-style wine made from Petite Sirah with fresh blueberry, mocha, and ground coffee aromas, and sweet spicy dark fruit flavors that will complement this rich cheesecake.

    – “A Caramel Fudge Swirl Cheesecake, Topped with Caramel Turtle Pecans and Chocolate all on a Pecan Brownie Crust”.

Pair with Broadbent 10 Year Malmsey Madeira. Madeira is a fortified wine made on an island off the coast of Portugal. It has wonderful toffee-caramel like character that is the result of heated aging. The Broadbent has a sweet rich chocolatey flavor that along with the toffee and caramel flavor will be perfect with this decadently sweet cheesecake.

    – “Our smooth Chocolate Cheesecake topped with a Layer of Chocolate Mousse and Baked in a Chocolate Crust. Finished with Chocolate Shavings and Whipped Cream“.

Pair with Churchill’s 10 Year Tawny Port. Tawny ports are smooth with a velvety texture and aromas of sweet fruit and roasted nuts. This is has a delicious sweet fig-like flavors and a caramel finish that will be a great match for this cheesecake.

My favorite cheesecake and dessert wine pairing? Come on! It’s impossible to pick one…it’s a toss-up between Caramel Pecan Turtle Cheesecake/Madeira, and the Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate/Oloroso. And if you ask me tomorrow…you might get a different answer-)!

Why are celebrities so obsessed with the goddamn Cheesecake Factory?

It’s almost been three months since Drake dropped Views from the Six, which gave us “One Dance” and the stunning revelation that Drake loves the restaurant chain Cheesecake Factory . No, like, really loves it. The Squire of the Six has been spotted there at least 10 times , and was seen at one of the chain’s Houston locations five days ago. He may have been filming the “Child's Play” music video, but he was definitely enjoying every bite. And he’s not the only one.

Yesterday, in an interview with E!, Meghan Trainor —the pop star who is so white that she feels totally comfortable joking about being “ Trini to the bone ,” and then explaining that that means that she has Trinidadian blood, and then further explaining that she doesn’t have any Trinidadian blood, which is why it’s so funny that she, a white person, made that joke— talked about a recent Cheesecake Factory experience of her own:

"Last night, I went to Cheesecake Factory and my security guard [said], ɽo you want me to come with you?' and I was like, 'No, dude. It's Cheesecake! I will be fine,'" she told us. "I got in there and I got swamped. Ah, maybe I should have had [security] come with me!"

Seriously, Cheesecake Factory? This again? While I’m 100% blaming Drake for Meghan Trainor’s Cheesecake Factory shoutout (because I’m slightly unreasonable), the place is a mainstay for all celebrities—just a few weeks before Views dropped, even the Kardashians showed up en masse at a Cheesecake Factory. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane, shall we?

In March 2012, Kristen Cavallari , who was pregnant at the time, hit up a Cheesecake Factory, spending five hours inside the restaurant. In 2014, Britney Spears made headlines after she skipped out—or as TMZ put it, “ chewed and screwed ”—on a Cheesecake Factory bill, but made up for it by, um, later paying for it and leaving the waitress a hefty tip.

Tyrese Gibson and Sanaa Lathan were spotted leaving Cheesecake Factory in 2014, as was a half-blue, half-blond-wigged Barbie-era Nicki Minaj (we can only imagine that her Roman Zolanski persona ordered the Skinnylicious Chicken Enchiladas while her Barbie persona got the Eggroll Sampler) way back in 2011. And the ever-delightful Parks and Recreation writer and Twitter personality Megan Amram is probably Cheesecake Factory’s #1 fan , except for maybe shark attack survivor and former lifestyle impresario Blake Lively (YES, HER) Not to mention the many NBA players who dine at the establishment (“They have millions of different cheesecakes,” one really tall New York Knick said .) Ciara, too, is a regular Cheesecake Factory attendee who blessed us with this gem of a tweet:

When celebrities indulge at the Cheesecake Factory, it means something more than just your average Stars! They’re just like us! moment. It’s not like they’re picking up groceries, filling up their gas tanks, picking their noses, or doing other normal stuff. Cheesecake Factory is a decidedly middle-class, mediocre (without the benefit of being cheap) dining establishment. Cheesecake Factory is the reference standup comedians drop when they’re trying to describe how dull dates become when you’re married. The food isn’t fantastic, nor is it good for you. The fact that they named their healthy menu “Skinnylicious” should probably say it all. Cheesecake Factory delivers the exact opposite of the glamour we expect from our celebrities, who constantly pave the way for new diet trends and try to sell us their gourmet cookbooks. It’s kind of nice that we plebs can truly connect with the rich and famous over these crappy dining choices and the horrific bowel movements that inevitably follow—there’s nothing more relatable than that.

Shepherd’s Pie

  • 2 tbsp oil, divided
  • 12 oz white mushrooms, sliced thinly
  • 8 oz red wine, divided
  • 1/2 cup carrots, julienned
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 3-4 sprigs fresh thyme, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp butter, divided
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup chicken or beef stock
  • 2 medium zucchini, julienned
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 6 cups mashed potatoes (6 medium yellow potatoes, 4 tbsp butter, 1/2 cup cream)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese, grated
  1. If you happen to have left-over mashed potatoes skip to step 2. Boil diced potatoes in salted water until soft, about 30 minutes.
  2. Pre-heat oven to 400F. Butter a large casserole dish.
  3. Meanwhile in a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp oil over medium-high heat. Add sliced mushrooms. Saute mushrooms until soft and brown. Add 2 oz red wine to the hot pan, stirring and scraping the pan. Remove mushrooms to a plate.
  4. Wipe out the pan and add the remaining 1 tbsp of oil, heat to medium.
  5. Saute carrots until beginning to soften, then add onion and garlic.
  6. When onions are soft add ground meat and brown, breaking meat into large chunks.
  7. When meat is browned, season with salt, pepper and thyme. Add mushrooms, peas and 1 tbsp butter.
  8. Sprinkle mixture with flour and stir. Then add tomato paste, Worcestershire, and remaining 6 oz wine.
  9. Cook and stir mixture for several minutes. Add stock and simmer until sauce is thick and somewhat reduced.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in zucchini. Season to taste.
  11. Pour meat mixture into the prepared casserole.
  12. Drain and mash potatoes with butter and cream as needed.
  13. Spoon mashed potatoes over meat and spread and smooth the top. (At this point you can refrigerate or freeze the dish as desired.)
  14. Brush potatoes with a beaten egg and sprinkle with Parmesan.
  15. Bake casserole 20-30 minutes or until hot and bubbling and potatoes are browned. Cook time will be longer for a cold dish.

Blake Lively is Launching A Lifestyle Site This Month

For anyone who wondered what Serena van der Woodsen Blake Lively planned to do post-“Gossip Girl,” here’s an answer: the starlet is taking a cue from celebrity peers like Gwyneth Paltrow and Lauren Conrad and starting her very own lifestyle website, set to launch this month!

We first heard about the site in a British Vogue interview Lively did last September, where she shared, “The main element of it is that it’s about storytelling and it’s about living a very one-of-a-kind, curated life, and how to achieve that. There’s nothing like it out there—it’s without a genre.”

Now, Page Six reports that the website—which will feature “curated fashion items”—is launching July 23!

So what kind of things can we expect the blonde b0mbshell to share with us? In an interview she did with The Cut in December, Lively shared that she’s a “huge fan” of Goop, Etsy, Pinterest, Bon Appetit, Martha Stewart Living, the Cheesecake Factory, cookbooks that she has but does not “really cook from,” and “motorcycle Tumblrs.” So, we guess that means a little bit of everything—from recipes and wellness tips to shopping and style ideas—with a Blake Lively twist, of course.

Lively has been a favorite of luxury houses for years—often seen at fashion shows on the arm of Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld or Michael Kors—and she’s currently the face of Gucci Premiere. Heck, she’s even been spotted chatting like besties with Anna Wintour. But fans love her for her easygoing, California-glam style and her down-to-earth attitude, which she can’t necessarily showcase with a designer red carpet look. To that end, a lifestyle website sounds like a really great fit—and other celebrities have found great success with similar ventures (ahem Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, Jessica Alba’s Honest, Iman’s makeup line, Kate Moss’ bizarre line of tech accessories).

1. The Original

If you are a plain Jane and you like simple flavors, then the original cheesecake is the one for you! The Original is one of the most basic options on the menu, but it is also one of the most flavorful ones! After all, it’s hard to mess up a plain cheesecake, especially by the Cheesecake Factory masters themselves.

Plus, you are bound to try this flavor at some point, so if you aren’t feeling as adventurous and want to stick to something you know you will enjoy, go with the Original! It won’t disappoint!
